    Hello,

I am Rakesh Dhanya from Sankalp India Foundation. Sankalp is a registered NGO working for the cause of blood donation and disaster relief. Sankalp has participated in disaster relief missions like Tsunami Relief in 2004, Kashmir earthquake in 2005, bomb blasts in Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bangalore (ensuring availability of blood), Karnataka floods in 2009. Sankalp’s methodology for flood relief is to reach out to the people in the earliest of stages in the event of a disaster and provide relief to people affected by the trauma. (Usually Sankalp focusses on visiting the affected area in the first 48-72 hours and reach out to help people in need. Now, Sankalp wishes to invite individuals and corporates who want to participate in disaster relief and are looking for a medium,. In order to facilitate this 2 events are planned

    1. A candle light vigil on 25th Decmeber 2010 at MG Road Bangalore to mourn the loss of thousands of lives lost in Tsunami of 2004 and pay homage to the departed souls. This event will be held between 6:30 and 7:30 PM. Here people who wish to contribute on a long term basis for disaster relief will be asked to register themselves

    2. To all people who have registered themselves to be a part of the disaster relief efforts, a gathering will be held on 26th January 2011 to officially kick-start a program to design a blueprint of methods and work strategies during disasters

Why dont Indian men have this?

The recent Anna Hazare movement has highlighted the growing strength, numbers and social participation of the Indian youth in our social movement. Though a majority of the participants where Urban men, the rural population wasnt far behind in this unprecented movement, nothing like what any of us have seen in our lifetimes! But I wonder was there a lack of a website which could have garnered more support/visibility amongst the youth in the cities of India? Could we have done more? Could we have presented the whole event in a language and style that the youth of today comprehends and associates itself? None of the news channels or forums ever dwelved into this.

I wonder with so much potential and power of the youth in India, why arent there any customized websites that targets this demographics? One wonders why there is no personalized style of writing in websites which are targetting these folks?

There is no localized and personalized website for any major city, which targets to give information and connects the urban indian men across the cities with the latest buzxz, happenings , events and any other information in a language and flavor that they would like, something like http://www.thrillist.com/ a hugely popular service in the US.

With this in mind, my organization is desiging and developing a website which would be targeted primarily to the Indian urban male youth between the age of 18-30. We are going to send daily email newsletter to all our registered users with the latest buzz, happenings, hangouts, movements, dating tips, events and all the other stuff in town in a language they like and use while talking to their mates! Imagine if we had this, it would have been so easy to cover the Anna fever from a localized perspective and garner more support.

Now wouldnt that be cool? What do you think would make this service more effective and useful? If you are interested to write for me, give me a shout at santhosh.jose@proappsconsulting.com

Aspiring copywriters and copywriters who’d like to polish their skills can sign up for David Ogilvy Award winning copywriter Anita Saran’s weekend Ad Copywriting Workshop at Times of India office on MG Road on 29th and 30th October. Learn how to analyse ads, write headlines and body copy. Here’s a testimonial from Supriya Sunder who attended the first workshop:

“When I walked in on the first day of Anita Saran’s Copy Course, I was crossing my fingers and hoping that it’s not one of those mundane workshops that one usually gets to hear about. And as it turned out, I wasn’t disappointed at all. Anita naturally puts you at ease, and you soon realize that this is going to be fun all the way through. And fun it was! She took us through the basics of copy-writing, made us analyse ad campaigns, played inspiring films about the mad-ad world, cracked jokes throughout, and involved us in each writing exercise. I walked in to the workshop wondering if I’ll ever be able to write a half-decent ad, and Anita Saran not only helped me write one, she erased those doubts in me forever. The place to be if you want to see whether ad copy-writing is your thing or not.”

Contact Anita at 9972227075. Check out anitasaran.com for more about her. Fees 3,500. Timings- 10:30 to 5 pm. on Saturday and Sunday.

    on Oct 17th, 2011
    @ 8:48 pm

    Hi,

On 22nd Oct between 9AM and 11AM there is a WALK FOR THALASSEMIA event aimed at spreading awareness about Thalassemia. Please publish this as an event. Here are the details

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder in which there is a reduction in the rate of production of haemoglobin and thus causing anemia. Treatment for Thalassemia Major involves regular blood transfusions. Some patients may require a transfusion every three weeks and treatment is often a painful process. With proper care and treatment, a person with thalassemia can live near normal life. However, due to lack of systematic treatment, counseling and care, most children with thalassemia do not live to celebrate their 18th birthday in our country.

Over 2.5 crore people in India have the genetic trait for thalassemia. People with Beta Thalassemia trait usually experience no health problems other than a mild anemia. However marriage between two such individuals can result in a child being born with Thalassemia Major. With a premarital thalassemia carrier test or pre-natal test during pregnancy once can prevent the birth of a child suffering from thalassemia major. Awareness is the key to eliminating thalassemia.

Sankalp India Foundation is a registered voluntary youth organization that is working to promote blood banking and effective blood transfusion services in Karnataka. The organization runs a statewide helpline for blood, accessible via a single number 948004444, has conducted more than 150 blood donation drives leading to a collection of more than 20,000 units of blood and also provides emergency services when a person is looking for blood. As part of their “Initiative For Better Blood Banking” campaign, the organization also indulges in conducting state level workshops, compiling and circulating a free newsletter for all blood banks and indulging in various research studies aimed at improving blood transfusion services.

As part of AMIND 10 Years celebrations, Applied Materials India is partnering with Sankalp India Foundation to present the “The Walk for Thalassemia” – an initiative aimed at raising awareness on Thalassemia, and how cases of Thalassemia major can be prevented. This walk is scheduled to be held on 22nd October 2011 between 9 AM and 11:30 AM. The walk is held from Cubbon park to Freedom park. We would have students from various schools and colleges participating in the walk and spreading awareness.

    Join in. Support the cause!
