“The Buddha within You”: a teaching on the Buddha’s nature

Tags: , , ,

KhangserRinpoche_newsletter_400x500 Ven. Khangser Rinpoche is to explain what the Buddha’s Nature is, and how each and every sentient being, can actualize the potential to end suffering, at Choe Khor Sum Ling Center, Bangalore, on July 12, 2009

Buddha Nature literally corresponds to the Sanskrit, Buddha-ghatu – Buddha Element, Buddha principle. It is also translated as Tathagata-garbha or Sugatagarbha, meaning the pure radiant intrinsic nature present in all sentient beings.
The ultimate consciousness of each being is spotless and pure, but surrounded by negative tendencies which are impure. The impurities that taint the mind and entail the state of unenlightenment are completely adventitious. The qualities of the Buddha’s mind need not to be brought about but merely need to be allowed to shine forth. Because they are intrinsic to the very nature of consciousness itself they, and the very state of Buddhahood, will never cease.
The message the Indian prince Gautama Siddhartha brought from his Enlightenment is that each and every sentient being has the potential to bring an end to suffering and discover a lasting and deathless happiness and peace. Through practice each and every sentient being can become the Buddha, the Awakened One.
Khangser Rinpoche will elaborate on how to realize this potential within us through mind-training practice and meditation techniques.
Rinpoche is a renowned teacher from Sera Jey Monastic University, at the young age of 33 he is one of the foremost Buddhist scholars and practitioners of our time.

Ven. Tenzin Gyurme Rinpoche

His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is a spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, a noted public speaker he travels extensively around the world giving teachings and public talks promoting human values and religious harmony and understanding. His tireless, efforts on behalf of human rights and world peace have brought him not only a number of awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize, but also a deep respect and admiration by people from different walks of life.

On July 6 this year His Holiness will turn 74, on this occasion Choe Khor Sum Ling is organizing a special teaching on Wisdom & Compassion by Venerable Tenzin Gyurme Rinpoche.

Wisdom & Compassion are the essence of enlightened life, inextricably linked these are the two sides of the same coin. When compassion is taken out of the equation, wisdom turns into worthless platitudes, which easily become destructive. Without compassion, wisdom degenerates into an escapist entanglement in concepts, theories and dogmas

The teaching will focus on how by conjoining your affection and kind-hearted sentiments towards others with wisdom one can bring about improvements in one’s own life and the life of others.

Venerable Tenzin Gyurme Rinpoche is a reincarnated lama from Sera Jey Monastic University in Bylakuppe, Karnataka. A brilliant student, he has been studying Buddhist philosophy for more than 12 years by now.

In the third and final turning of the wheel of Dharma, Sakyamuni Buddha gave the teachings on the qualities of sa?bodhi (perfect and complete awakening) that already permeates our being as sugata-garbha or tathagata-garbha (The essence of Enlightenment, usually translated as the Buddha Nature). This is the true nature of our mind, the self-arisen awareness that is not stained or defiled by the cloud-like defilements that obstructs its vivid appearance. Just as the gold which is already present in the gold-mine manifests with all its qualities on refinement, Buddhahood with all its qualities already present in us manifests on the removal of obscurations. Sakyamuni Buddha’s teaching on the Sugata-Essence is further explained by Lord Maitreya in Uttaratantra-sastra. Lopon Chogyal Wangdi will be basing his teaching on this text. There will also be a short meditation session along with the teaching.
