Sunaada Balaga is organizing a musical evening ‘Gaana Manthana’ at Kannada Saahitya Praishat, Chamarajapet on this Saturday, 20th of February. ‘Gaana Manthana’ is a unique program where Karnataka’s great Sugama Sangeetha composer C.Ashwath’s compositions will be analyzed and explained by Mandolin Prasad, Praveen.D.Rao and Sangeeta Katti. Songs will be rendered by Ravi Muroor.

Habba literally denotes festival in Kannada – the local State language of Karnataka. The Bengaluru Habba aims to provide valuable and aesthetic entertainment at no cost for the audiences. We hope to expose youth to the joy of live traditional performing and visual arts and crafts and to make Bengaluru a culturally vibrant place. Classical dance performances, Carnatic & Hindustani music recitals, Folk dances, English & Regional theatre productions, Craft melas and Sports competitions add to the grandeur of the festival at multiple venues in the city. Internationally, nationally and locally acclaimed artists grace the Habba’s stage.

Ronu Majumdar & Kadri Gopalnath, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Rahul Sharma, Lillette Dubey, Kala Madhyam artisans, EVAM productions, Galeej Gurus, and Aditi Mangaldas, Shaan, Sukhwinder Singh, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandits Ranjan & Sajan Mishra, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasiya, Shree L. Subramanyam, Shivamani and Taufiq Quereshi have all performed at previous Bengaluru Habbas.
To mark the 6th year celebration, the Government of Karnataka has graciously agreed to adopt the Bengaluru Habba as one of the flagship festivals of the state, in partnership with the private sector. This endeavour is the first of its kind in the country where the public, private and the industrial sector have come together to present the artistic palette of India which has enthralled millions around the world.

It indeed gives us great pleasure to invite you once again to another year of festivities at the 6th Bengaluru Habba from December 4th to December 21st, 2008.

Raghu Dixit in Bangalore

Raghu is going to be playing a series of gigs in Landmark Stores across the country this weekend. There are shows planned in Pune, Chennai and Bangalore on the 14th, 15th and 16th of November respectively. I will put up more details about the shows very soon, but if any of you are in these cities, keep those days free to catch Raghu unplugged at a Landmark Store near you!

Note: The Swagath theatre in Jayanagar has become a shopping complex cum multiplex now. It hosts the new landmark too.

Anup Jalota live in concert in Bangalore on 2nd October

The United Nations General Assembly took a momentous decision last year to observe the International Day of Non-Violence each year on 2 October – the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Keeping this context in mind, Shree Jagannath Temple Trust is celebrating the International Day of Non-Violence this year with a concert by Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

The event is being organized by Maam Entertainment.

The proceeds of the concert will go towards funding the construction of Shree Jagannath Temple and Cultural Center in Agara on Sarjapur Road which will be a true landmark of Bangalore largely based on the architecture of the Shree Jagannath Temple at Puri.
