You will learn about the concepts of photography, what the different modes of a camera mean, how to compose a photograph so that it catches the eye, how to post-process it to reflect reality or make it artistic, and, in an increasingly connected world, how to share it online. So the next time you click a photograph, you’ll create a memory to cherish.

You would be required to bring your digital camera to the workshop. An advanced camera or an SLR is NOT a prerequisite.

Accomplished travel and landscape photographer Arun Bhat’s works have been used by publications in India and across the world, all the way from Japan to USA. Badami is known for its rock cut temples and a history dating back more than thousand years. Travel photographers see much more than just that; this small town offers a wide variety of photography opportunities. There are red sand stones glistening in the morning sun, waterfalls that come alive and tumble down the cliffs adjacent to the caves in the monsoon months, colonies of friendly people with photogenic face who are more than happy to be subjects for your camera, a rural life where you see women washing clothes in a lake next to men scrubbing a bullock’s hide, temples in leafy environs with roots of ficus trees drooping over the gopuras, brilliant landscapes of cliffs overlooking a lake,.. The list is very long.

Darter Photography takes you to this Badami and nearby places that are a mix of well-known as well as unknown, bringing you great photography opportunities that can keep your clicking finger busy. Learn to make appealing travel images on this workshop as you discover the corners of Badami.

Workshop Highlights

This three day workshop will help you understand making images of various genres that a travelling photographer will encounter, on and off the field. This photography workshop comprises indoor sessions on various genres, several outdoor photography shoots and constant image reviews that help improve your photography skills. Badami offers a diverse We encounter a wide variety of photography opportunities during our three days in Badami. Here is a glimpse of them.

  • Landscapes. Verical cliffs of red sandstone, waterfalls that come alive in good monsoons, a lake trapped between tall rocky hills, small puddles in the monsoon that reflect the sky, hills and the small temples in dramatic suroundings.
  • Architecture. The famed rock cut temples and the bass reliefs inside them are just the beginning. There are little known shrines all around, temples on a lake bed, temples in leafy surroundings and a wide variety of architecture that are a specialty of this region.
  • Village Life. Women yapping in the courtyard as they clean the grains, happy smiling people willing to wait for your click, women washing clothes in the lake, children on their way to school, tractors and bullcock carts, men gathered under ficus trees and much more are the scenes of everyday life in the living quarters of Badami. The congenial people of Badami are often more than happy to oblige to your camera.

The workshop is a balanced mix of indoor sessions/reviews and practical exposure on field. The workshop helps you understand the diverse scope of travel photography and make the best use of photography opportunities offered by a location. The workshop content includes

  • learning the nuances of travel photography – in theory and practice
  • on field learning on making a wide variety of travel images – landscapes, people and heritage sites

The rainforests of Agumbe are always alive – the sound of water droplets falling from high up in the canopy to puddles on the ground, the croaks of frogs as they look for mates, and the multitude of insects buzzing form a natural orchestra that quickly becomes addictive. Little streams flow through the forest, tumbling down as beautiful waterfalls in many places. Fungi of all shapes, sizes and colors are everywhere. Snakes, in their myriad colours and sizes, eagerly wait and lookout for prey. Praying Mantises blend into their environments, perfectly camouflaging themselves.

 

Join Darter Photography to the pristine rainforests of the Western Ghats – Agumbe. Experience the place which gets the highest rainfall in South India, get up-close with diverse endemic species of the region. Interact with researchers studying these forests. And possibly see and photograph the king of these forests, the aptly named King Cobra.

Yours Truly Theatre presents ‘Vox Populi  (‘Voice of people’ in latin) ‘ an interactive forum theatre performance where Audience will take on the stage as they step into the shoes of the actors in this participatory theatre performance.

In this performance the audiences will be invited to ” interrupt ” the performance by coming on stage and taking on the role of the protagonist or any other character in the story and resolve the issues of oppression or unresolved conflicts in the scene. This helps us as a community to not just Vocalize concerns but focus on solutions.

Vox populi is a collection of four stories which focuses on issues faced by todays urban educated people.
