BMTC BUS day
January 27th, 2010
BMTC has planned their first ever Bus Day on Thursday, Feb 4, 2010 with a particular focus on 2 corridors – Hosur Road and Old Airport road. The idea is to take the Bus on that day (if you aren’t already taking the company bus or any other bus) and see the difference it will make to traffic congestion and air quality. Vehicle speeds and emissions will be monitored on the corridors to quantify the difference in order to further encourage people to travel by public transport. The campaign is meant to create awareness interactively (as paper free as possible) through an electronic survey and by just taking the Bus!

The Bus Day team at BMTC has designed a short survey and the first way we can help is to fill in the survey online.

The initiative is good and we should support the noble cause for reducing the Global warming.

We don’t have direct bus from Krishna Raja Puram to Bilekahalli or Bommanalli. It’ll be good if we have services in this route.

The initiative is good and most welcome. After this initiative if we dont learn the root cause it will become just like a festival every year rather than providing solution.
For instance, if people are made to walk long distance to catch a bus they will eventualy fall to personal transport again for the convenience. No one wants to sweet and get tired before entering the office right.
As a sample case, For a person who stays in Maruthi Nagar (Between BTM, Madiwala & Koramangala) to EC or Hosur road is a real pain because there is no bus stops nearby in hosur road. Either had to reach St Johns signal, Korakamangala watertank, Madiwala market or BTM 2nd stage. This kind of bottlenecks are applicable in many parts of the city.
other cases are Mavali (near Lalbagh main gate) to EC, KR puram to EC, Koramangala 4th block to BTM or JP nagar. All these heavy people flow areas are the classical examples why they opt for personal transport.

While Old Airport road has a lot of busses and it is easy to get to many places from there, the connectivity between Old Airport road and Old Madras road is almost non-existant. There actually seems to be no bus that goes on this route and even the few that serve CV Raman Nagar don’t touch Old Airport road
