His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is a spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, a noted public speaker he travels extensively around the world giving teachings and public talks promoting human values and religious harmony and understanding. His tireless, efforts on behalf of human rights and world peace have brought him not only a number of awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize, but also a deep respect and admiration by people from different walks of life.

On July 6 this year His Holiness will turn 74, on this occasion Choe Khor Sum Ling is organizing a special teaching on Wisdom & Compassion by Venerable Tenzin Gyurme Rinpoche.

Wisdom & Compassion are the essence of enlightened life, inextricably linked these are the two sides of the same coin. When compassion is taken out of the equation, wisdom turns into worthless platitudes, which easily become destructive. Without compassion, wisdom degenerates into an escapist entanglement in concepts, theories and dogmas

The teaching will focus on how by conjoining your affection and kind-hearted sentiments towards others with wisdom one can bring about improvements in one’s own life and the life of others.

Venerable Tenzin Gyurme Rinpoche is a reincarnated lama from Sera Jey Monastic University in Bylakuppe, Karnataka. A brilliant student, he has been studying Buddhist philosophy for more than 12 years by now.

Long long ago.. actually, not so long ago, there was a nice long road with huge trees on either side and students and elders alike used to cycle to their school/college/workplace. The same could be said about most of the roads in Bangalore until one fine day when the world realized what a ‘cool’ place Bangalore is and the rest is history.
Cliched as it may seem, a lot of people say Bangalore has gotten warmer in the last 10 years.

So, here’s our teeny weeny bit to reclaim the Bangalore that we know of. Join us as we spread the message of cycling in Bangalore.

This edition of Critical Mass is registered at UNEP as one of the World Environment Day activities. Watch this space for our event to be featured.

‘Establishing a Daily Meditation Practice’ class

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Choe Khor Sum Ling, a Buddhist Meditation & Study Center, is organizing a class on “Establishing a Daily Meditation Practice”.
Meditation is of great importance in all religions, including the Buddhist tradition: prince Siddhartha became the Buddha, the Awakened One, after achieving Enlightenment in the profound meditation under a Bodhi tree.
By training in meditation, we create an inner space and clarity that enables us to control our mind regardless of the external circumstances. Gradually we develop mental equilibrium, a balanced mind that is happy all the time, rather than an unbalanced mind that oscillates between the extremes of excitement and despondency.
If we train in meditation systematically, eventually we will be able to eradicate from our mind the delusions that are the causes of all our problems and suffering.
The class will be held by Venerable Tenzin Namjong, a Buddhist monk. Originally from Hawai, USA, Venerable Namjong is currently studying Buddhism in Sera Jey Monastic University in Mysore district of Karnataka.
The class will be of equal interest to advanced practitioners and absolute beginners.
Schedule: June 13, Saturday, 06:30 PM – 08:30 PM
