Choe Khor Sum Ling Center celebrates “The First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma”: the Arya Sangha Tasutra Dharmaparayaya to be recited at the Center

Choe Khor Sum Ling celebrates the Dharma-chakra Pravartan Din, the day when the Buddha first turned the Wheel of Dharma giving a teaching at Deer Park in Sarnath. The Arya Sangha Tasutra Dharmaparayaya is to be recited at the Center on August 5, 2008, from 6.30 pm onwards.

Mahayana schools classify the Buddhist teachings in turns of a sequential scheme of development, in which the Buddha began with simple teachings and proceeded to more complex. The phases are called ԴurningsԠof the Dharma-chakra, the globally recognized symbol of the Dharma is a chariot wheel.

The first turning of the wheel occurred when the Buddha taught to the five ascetics at the Deer Park in Sarnath. In memory of this, the Dharmacakra is sometimes represented with a deer on each side. This was the day when the Buddha first spoke about the Four Noble Truths and elements of Tripitaka ֠the Abdhidharma, Sutrapitaka and Vinaya.

According to the Tibetan calendar this year Dharma-chakra Pravartan Din (Sanskr.) or Choe Khor Dhuchen (Tib.) falls on August 5, 2008. To celebrate the day the Arya Sangha Tasutra Dharmaparayaya will be recited at the Centerӳ premises. Choe Khor Sum Ling Center, Bangalore, invites practitioners to join the recitations on this auspicious day.
