Linux as an Enterprise Real-Time Operating System
Speaker : Ankita Garg
Date & Time : Saturday, 26-July-2008. 10.00am – 12.00am.
Venue : Computer Society of India, Bangalore Chapter,
NO.201, IInd Floor, MBC Complex, Infantry Road,
Bangalore-560001.
Phone : 22860461/22862215
Talk Abstract :
With the advent of multi-processor systems, the performance has vastly improved in an enterprise environment. However, several organizations require guaranteed determinism in terms of response times and a level of predictability and consistency in performance. For example, financial institutions, defense establishments, etc. But, as computer systems have become complex, predictability has regressed significantly. Since traditional real-time systems have been implemented in the embedded domain, a new way of doing real-time is needed to guarantee determinism in an enterprise environment. Keeping this in mind, the Linux kernel has been modified to make Linux a viable option as the operating system of choice for Enterprise Real-Time. This talk would present the details of the requirements, technical aspects of the modifications made to the Linux kernel to make it real-time and an example solution built around it.
About the Speaker:
Ankita Garg works as a developer for IBM’s Linux Technology Center in Bangalore, India. She is currently working on Real-Time Linux kernel enhancements, concentrating on the scalability of the real-time kernel. Ankita was previously working in the RAS team, which is responsible for tools like kdump, kprobes and systemtap. A Computer Science engineer from P.E.S Institute of Technology, Bangalore, she joined IBM as a fresh college graduate.
