World Music Day Backgrounder:
Every year the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore organizes the World Music Day in collaboration with the Embassy of France in India and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Republique Française. This year, the unique musical festival completes 25 years since it was first started.

This festival was started in the year 1982 . Since then it has become a true social phenomenon and tradition. In France, every year on this day, thousands of musicians, both amateur and professional, gather at all public places to celebrate the true spirit of music. Hundreds of music concerts of all styles of music are organized on this day, and all music lovers are welcome to contribute to this celebration. The popularity of the event is constantly increasing all over the world.

This year, keeping the tradition alive, Alliance Française de Bangalore organizes the event with one main purpose: to promote and enjoy good music and the entry is free and open to all music lovers. Any and every person who wishes to be part of this celebration is most
welcome to attend. There is no entry fee or pass.

The Fête de la Musique also takes place in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Britain, China and Morocco. It continues to spread to other countries. It was thought up by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1981 It is the occasion of a mass celebration
which has grown more and more successful over the last two decades. In France, this is one of the only nights in the year where there is no sound restriction at nighttime. One can party on without being bothered by neighbors calling the police.
